Raw Materials
As experienced knifesmith as well as designer and collector of high quality
knives, we use only high quality materials to make our products. We legally
acquire all natural materials such as horns, ivory, mother-of-pearl and
sea turtle shells with the consent of the Royal Forest Department of Thailand.
Types of Handle Scales
Sea turtle shells
Our sea turtle shells are very old. It has been kept for at least 60 years.
They belonged to our grandfather as stuff animal collection. Some shells
were bitten but most of them are in perfect condition. Sea turtle shells
are naturally durable (it is natural protein as rhino horn). Their amber
color and natural black patterns are very much suitable for the creation
of collectible knives thanks to the natural value of the shells.
Sea turtle shells are now rare and expensive because they are unavailable
in general markets and their trade is illegal almost worldwide. We believe
we are the only source of sea turtle shells in Thailand (limited material)
Elephant ivory
The ivory scales that we use to make our knives come from our own collection
and also from regal suppliers. Most of them date back to 1958-1972. Elephant
ivory scales make very beautiful and highly demanded knives but this raw
material is costly and become rare material.
Our Ivory came from both Asia and African elephant. All source of our
ivory must be regal and having government permission.
Tropical stag horns
All stag horns we use to create our high quality knives came from tropical
stags of North and the Central rainforest of Thailand. Every raining season,
mushroom hunters sell stag horns to us. It comes from stags that lose
their horns when they are old ages. Stag horns have very beautiful patterns
and the most durable. It is suitable material for functional knives as it is hard
and do not require special care.
Gaur (Wild bull horns) and buffalo horns
All gaur and buffalo horns as materials of handle scales come from local
people and hunters. Some horns are as old as 80 years. Burnished gaur
and buffalo horns are beautiful and glossy. They are durable and work
well with water as stag horns.
Ostrich leg bones and cow bones
Ostrich leg bones are hard and durable. The polished bone will give glossy
and look so similar to ivory that hardly to distinguish. Ostrich become
popular as quite similar to ivory with much lower price. Our supplies
come from ostrich farms around central of Thailand.
Mammoth and bones
All our mammoth ivory, teeth and bones are imported from many countries
depend on quality. Many times we got the high quality mammoth from e-bay.
Boar fangs
We acquire boar fangs from our friends who are hunters. It always takes
us a long wait to get a pair of boar fangs for making a knife. So when
such a knife is completed, it usually ends up in our own collection. Boar
fangs are beautiful and very suitable for single-blade knives.
Crocodile teeth
We use only the teeth of big crocodiles because we want big and hard teeth.
Our supplies come from crocodile farms in Thailand. They are very unique
material
Varieties of woods
Our wide range of old woods comes from Thai and Burma forests. Mainly
we use core wood for its hardness and beauty patterns. We always keep
our woods for over a year , let them dry and develop their durability
to prevent cracks. Therefore, our wooden handle scales are crack-proof.
However, some tiny crack would occur under extreme changes of temperatures
which really rare to see this case.
We also use Teak. Part of our Teak comes from the hulls of sank boats
in Thai rivers for decades. The wood is robust and has very special beautiful
patterns. Its color is unique and this kind of teak is really rare.
